Nobel prize in literature won by Romanian-born writer Herta Muller
Romanian-born German writer Herta Muller won this year's Nobel prize in literature, being rewarded for the concentration of poetry and the frankness of prose, that depicts the landscape of the dispossessed, the Swedish Academy announced.
Herta Muller was born in western Romania in 1953 and emigrated to Germany in 1987.
Muller becomes only the 12th woman to have won the Nobel since it launched in 1901.
In 2008, the Nobel prize in literature went to Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio from France.
