The nuclear plant will have an installed power of about 3,000 MW.
The most suitable area to build the plant is between Fagaras and Talmaciu towns, on the river Olt. The study to pick the place cost 3.58 million lei, money coming from industrial development funds, according to Gorea. The company in charge with the study analyzed more than 100 places.
Gorea mentioned investments in the nuclear field are money-making as they are amortized in 12-15 years, half of the time needed for the amortization of money pumped in alternative sources of electricity.
Romania's sole nuclear plant is located in the southeastern town of Cernavoda and counts two reactors of 700 MW installed power each. It plans to add two other reactors following a 4 billion euro investment, which should be ready around 2016.
The electricity produced annually by the two units in Cernavoda represents about 18 percent of the country's total output.
